Stoke Newcastle Ramblers

Where walking is a pleasure

George Shufflebotham Memorial

George Shufflebotham was a stalwart member of our club who with his wife Pauline walked many a path and then compiled walking books to sell and raise funds for our group.  He also devised the Monk's Way path which goes from Abbey Hulton to Bagnall.  Therefore it was to our surprise that the Bagnall parish council objected to the installation of a memorial post and plaque on the Monk's Way.

After trying several other places I contacted Cheddletton Parish Council where George had been a long standing committee member.  They were glad to be of help as George had done a lot of footpath work for them.

Howard and I went to footpath 38 in the Cheddleton Parish and installed a post and plaque on the 13th Sept 2016. You can find it at SJ 979 524, just off the Caldon Canal.
