Where walking is a pleasure

We are a friendly, welcoming and inclusive group with a programme of walks that aims to meet anyone's choice. Whether you are just starting or have been walking for years, whether you want a gentle stroll or a full day hike, you will be able to meet like minded companions. If you like company while walking, you will enjoy our Group walks but even if you would rather walk solo we have a lot to offer.

As Britain's number one walking charity we have full time professional staff to campaign and lobby government to defend and improve the rights of walkers everywhere, and to preserve the landscape and countryside. Our volunteers keep a keen eye on the local footpaths, reporting problems and giving their time to make improvements. We are grateful to all our members that support this work, and are always pleased to welcome new recruits. Anyone may join us for up to three walks - after that we will invite you to become a member.

The shorter walks tend to be more local, while the longer walks are often further afield, especially in the summer months.  There are three programmes of walks, usually as follows:
  • Half day Sunday, every week,  between 5 and 6 miles
  • Thursdays, fortnightly, between 8 and 10 miles
  • Fridays, roughly fortnightly, strenuous walks only suitable for experienced walkers.
