Stoke & Newcastle Ramblers

Suitable for both complete beginners and improvers.

 An opportunity to learn or revise navigation techniques on the scenic tracks and paths around Much Wenlock. Content will be based upon the series of Ramblers navigation videos (link below) and will include:

• choice of equipment;
• types of map, scales and symbols;
• timing and pacing;
• the 5 D's;
• taking a bearing;
• contour interpretation;
• what to do if you think you're lost.

Maps will be provided but if you have them or can borrow them, please bring:

• a compass;
• a digital wristwatch

The day will run at a relaxed pace with plenty of stops so make sure you dress for anticipated conditions. As usual, you will need a snack, something to drink and a packed lunch. Boots are advisable as parts may be muddy.

The planned route is approximately 10 km with 190 m of ascent.

There are a maximum of six places and booking (by email only, please) is essential.
