From September 2025 to August 2026 Stoke/Newcastle Ramblers membership reduced from 244 to 237, and during that period we recruited 35 new members, but lost 42.

Hence our group membership numbers remain substantial, but concerns remain regarding volunteer numbers. While thanks are due to all those members who have recently completed Ramblers walk leader accreditation and led their first group walk, and, currently, our Thursday and Friday walking programs are largely complete, our Sunday HD program is developing gaps. Hence, more walk leaders and other volunteers would be welcomed in order to maintain all our activities and safeguard the future of the group.

Sunday half day walks
The Sunday half day walks programme is struggling & there are frequent gaps.
All those who volunteer to lead walks have completed the leadership training & we continue to benefit from their loyalty & support to the group.
Sadly in the past year the group has lost some experienced leaders which has an impact.
I must remain optimistic that I can encourage & support others to undertake the training & dip their toes in the water. It can seem a daunting prospect & a big responsibility although there is always support available within the group.
The group walks are generally well attended & we hope to continue with a reasonably full programme throughout the year.
