Despite the poor weather forecast twenty four walkers set off today from Ellastone, and we made our way towards Stanton with blue skies and a gentle breeze. We continued along quiet lanes and tracks past Wildhay and then joined some well-worn field paths back to the cars. After the walk we stopped for a refreshing drink at the Duncombe Arms PH.

Nine Ramblers from seven different groups met near the aqueduct on Old Knutsford Road, all attracted by the promise of a demanding walk. Coming from as far afield as Leicester and Stockport it shows there is a demand for longer walks.
Having crossed the fields to Scholar Green, crossing the canal over the swing bridge was a novelty enjoyed by all. Having to yank up the chain from the bottom of the canal, then pull across the bridge was great fun, even though the chain itself was covered in weed.

Starting from Alton Village Hall, seventeen ramblers made their way towards Denstone College and onto the Churnet Way where we had a short short break. We then followed the Staffordshire Way to Saltersford lane and back to Alton. Everyone was glad to see Brian W who, after recovering from illnesss, was able to join us for the first part of the walk.

The weather was warm with a refreshing breeze when nine ramblers set off along a valley between Onecote and Ford and then climbed upwards towards Bullclough and Grindon Moor. We were met with widespread views towards Butterton and the Manifold Valley before we began our walk back to the start through Grindon Moor where the views were towards Onecote. After the ramble, six of us did not want to go home without stopping at the Jervis Arms for a refreshing drink.
